Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup light molasses
3/4 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
Cinnamon Pear Sauce (recipe follows)
Preparation
1) Preheat oven to 325*F. Grease and lightly flour 9-inch square baking pan.
2) Combine all ingredients except Cinnamon Pear Sauce in large bowl. Beat at low speed of electric mixer until well blended, scraping side of bowl with rubber spatula. Beat at high speed 2 minutes more. Pour into prepared pan.
3) Bake 50 to 55 minutes or until wooden toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack about 30 minutes. Cut into squares; serve warm with Cinnamon Pear Sauce.
Cinnamon-Pear Sauce
2 cans (16 ounces each) pear halves in syrup, undrained
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Preparation
1) Drain pear halves, reserving 1/4 cup syrup. Place pears, reserved syrup, granulated sugar, lemon juice and cinnamon in bowl of food processor or blender; cover. Process until smooth. Just before serving, place pear sauce in medium saucepan; heat until warm. Makes 2 cups sauce.
