Ingredients:
2 cups flour
½ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon baking soda
1/3 cup butter, chilled and cut into pieces
3 tablespoons vegetable shortening
1 cup buttermilk

Preparation:
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
2. In large mixing bowl add flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda.
3. Using your fingertips, 2 forks or a pastry blender add shortening and butter until mixture looks like coarse meal or crumbs.
4. Make a well in middle of mixture and add buttermilk
5. Stir lightly just enough to moisten dry ingredients. Dough should be sticky.
6. Place dough on floured surface.
7. Dust top of dough with flour and knead 4 to 5 times.
8. Form dough into 1 inch thickness
9. Cut out dough with lightly floured 2 - 3 inch biscuit cutter or small drinking glass. Avoid twisting cutter or glass. Place on lightly greased baking pan.
10. Reshape leftover dough and repeat steps and 9.
11. Bake in preheated oven at 425 degrees for 12 - 15 minutes or until golden brown.
12. Serve hot.  Serves 8 - 10 biscuits.
